FOREST HILLS, DC

RESIDENCE

APRIL, 2014

The renovation of this 1950’s brick home in the Forest Hills neighborhood of DC began as a proposal for a garage expansion, theater room addition, and moderate landscaping. However, as the project progressed, the owners decided to use this renovation as an opportunity to realize their dreams of creating a home within a home, a place for their children and aging parents to visit for extended stays and live in comfort.

Inside, the kitchen was outfitted with new counter tops, cabinets and appliances. A custom stone fireplace with exposed twin stacks, is the focal point of the main living space. Added to lower lever are a wooded sauna room, refinished bathroom, laundry room, theater room, and his/her offices finished with custom desks and cabinetry. For wheelchair accessibility, a sleek contemporary elevator now connects all three floors of the house. Outside, the patio forms two terraces, each with new slate paving, one with a fire pit, and now functions as an extension of the living space with gorgeous views historic Rock Creek Park.
